More difficult to diet with kids?

Do you feel like dieting is much more challenging when kids are around? I do. They always want sugars and snacks. So, when you give them what they want, you end up being tempted to eat it along with them. It's quite the challenge to overcome.

Maybe the answer to that is a healthier diet for the entire family. More fruits, nuts, and cheese snacks and less candy, processed salty snacks, and sugar. It's never too early to learn healthy habits that last a lifetime.

Definitely! All I hear is "I'm hungryyyyy"! I've had a real crack down this week and told them it's fruit or nothing, although I'm still being met with shouts of "but I want something out the cupboards!" aka biscuits!

For me, it's impossible to eat healthy when there are other people in the house eating junk food. That's why I had a heart-to-heart with everyone here earlier this year and told them there's not going to be any more junk food in this house. They moaned and groaned about it for a couple weeks, but eventually everyone settled in and learned to deal with it. It may sound selfish to basically say, "It's my way or the highway," but this is a new way of life that benefits everyone, not just the chubby one that needs to lose weight! (Meaning me.)

Why not just let them keep the junk food in their own rooms?

You know that you are setting them up to fail in the future, don't you?

As soon as they get out on their own and have that taste of freedom they will be going all out on the junk food. Because they were denied it for all those years. You are setting them up for an eating disorder.

I, for one, do not want anyone keeping food in their bedrooms. We would end up with bugs everywhere. It's hard enough to get them to pick up their clothes from the floor.

Teaching kids to have a healthy diet is not setting them up for an eating disorder. That's like saying if you teach them to have correct manners they will suddenly become out of control criminals as soon as they leave the house.

If you don't allow junk food in the house then you are setting them up for an eating disorder. They'll are going to go hog wild when they go away to college or when they are out of the house. They will binge on sweets. It's human psychology.

The summer and last week when the kids have been off have proved to me when they are around more my diet and fitness goes out the window.

Generally I try to buy them goodies that I don't like ... so things like the value packs of crisps they have for packed lunches etc my poor children

I see many parents out there who are always on the go and never eating good things. When you load up on the bad stuff you are always going to be hungry because you are not eating the right things that your body needs.

Lol wobbs I bought prawn cocktail crisps for the kids the other day cos I can't stand them!

I think it's so hard as a parent to eat properly, more often than not, I struggle to even go for a wee on my own, let alone make myself something nutritious to eat
