How To Lose Weight Well

I've just watched this ridiculous programme on channel 4 for the 2nd week running, but never again! I spent the whole hour shouting at the screen, and hubby had to tell me to calm down.
This week they promoted:
The fast food diet, where you eat only fast food but only 1500 calories a day.
The grapefruit diet, where you eat ½ a grapefruit before each healthy meal
The apple cider vinegar diet, where you drink it before each healthy meal
The blood type diet, where your blood group determines what foods to eat to lose weight...
Basically it's all a load of cobblers and very subjective. They're putting people on crash diets that have no nutritional evidence but rely on controlling calories in some way. They are simply gimmicky ways of eating.
And lastly, they started to discuss clean eating, by saying some people take it too far and restrict too many foods and become anorexic. There was no mention of the benefits of clean eating, but an insinuation that participants become control freaks.
I'm furious at channel 4!

Grapefruit decreases insulin sensitivity which has a big benefit to energy levels. When insulin is spiked it gives the body the opportunity to store body fat, the higher the levels of insulin that's in the blood, the longer your body has to store body fat (in its most basic form) so insulin just aids in decreasing this spike!

I don't 'diet' I eat healthy, clean and I train. Our coach has advised that grapefruit is to be the first thing that touches our lips and before any treat meal but there is a lot of information out there that suggests it loses fat and it can lose you 10lbs in x many weeks blah blah blah, not how it works like you say.

Apple cider vinegar has benefits too and is known to help you feel fuller which leads to weight loss if you are eating to your goals but it doesn't magically lose you that 10lbs in a week either

I'd have been shouting at the TV too by the sounds of it

'If you want to lose weight, skip meals' is probably the oldest myth one has heard of. Never fall for this. In fact, the more balanced food you give the body, the better it responds to weight loss.

I have to agree with a lot of sentiments in this thread. You want to create an environment that sustainable for you, this is why there is no such thing as a perfect diet.

Even though there are benefits to some of the things mentioned such as grapefruit and apple cider vinegar they are supplemental, meaning that if the rest isn't in place they'll have virtually no effect on fat loss.

Watching any dieting/nutrition tv shows makes me furious haha

Consistent aerobic activity, such as brisk walking for at least 30 minutes most days of the week, is one of the greatest strategies to shed body fat. Some people might need more exercise than recommended to reduce their weight and keep it off. Any additional movement aids in calorie burning.
