cheat meals and weight loss surgery

hi guys,

i was wondering if anyone has cheat meals once a week or something, and is still able to lose weight every week. i have not eaten a bad thing in three weeks which doesnt sound a lot but when i was eating what i wanted when i wanted, its become hard to be without. i really want a dominoes and would kill for one right now but im worried about my targets. i have 8 stone to lose and hopefully by the time i go on holiday next year.
i have been considering a weight loss surgery of either a gastric band or an gastric balloon that gets taken out. does anyone else have any experience with weight loss surgery and would you be able to tell me a bit about it. was it the best decision you ever made.

thanks guys

Sounds like you've answered your own question. I don't have cheat meals because they make me feel uncomfortable. I also don't lose - I gain at the drop of a hat so for me it doesn't work.

I was in hospital earlier this week, my dinner in there would have been ok, but I had apple crumble and custard (small portion) and a couple of bars of chocolate (over a couple of days). I came home up 2lb. Even thought I had a day hardly eating anything and another day where half was nil by mouth due to the op.

Hope you enjoyed your meal but feel more comfortable soon.

A treat every now and again is OK, we're only human, but we can't forget that it's probably the reason we need to lose weight in the first place! I've just had a weeks holiday and ate exactly what I wanted. It made me feel sick and bloated, constipated and gave me heartburn, not to mention that it made me feel really low in mood
I have a friend who had a gastric band a few years ago. She lost lots of weight but now lives off sweet food like cakes and biscuits so it was pointless really and she's obese again!

I thought when people have weight loss surgery they work close with them to learn how to have a healthier life? Sad the person didn't really learn any life lessons for maintaining their healthy weight.

I looked in to it a few years ago and came to the conclusion that weight loss surgery is great for people who have exhausted every other avenue. I think a lot of people see it as an easy way to lose weight, but it's far from that.

Gastric bands, etc, still require will power and, if you're determined enough to still over eat, it can be overcome. It prevents you eating large meals, but eating high fat foods little and often is still possible. You still need to learn healthy eating and have good self control.

With gastric bypass you feel so awful and in so much pain, you can't keep anything down for quite some time (it is major surgery after all). Not only do they make your stomach smaller but they remove a large part of your bowel to prevent your body absorbing the fat from your food. Unfortunately it also prevents your body from absorbing the nutrients it needs so you generally have to take a cocktail of vitamins and mineral pills for the rest of your life. Like I said, far from easy.

I'm in no way against gastric surgeries, and if I had tried every other option for losing weight, and the weight was ruining my life, then I wouldn't think twice.

Like you I had around 8 stone to lose, I started off just under 18st and, to put me in the middle of my healthy bmi, I should be around 10st. I've been on various diets over the years, but still continued to put on weight. Fortunately I found Slimming World 8wks ago. It really works for me and I'm actually enjoying it.

There's nothing wrong with splurging occassionally, it's not the end of the world. However your body quickly gets used to not having to constantly struggle to digest all of the junk food, so doesn't always react well when you do cheat, as you found out. I've also found that my tastes have changed already. I went out for a meal with friends last week and stuck to plan apart from some hollandaise sauce for my salmon and baked potato. I used to love hollandaise, but I actually found myself scraping it off of everything, it was just too buttery. Not a phrase I ever thought that I'd come out with. Lol.

Anyway, good luck with continuing your weight loss journey, whichever road you decide to take.

it is possible to have a 'treat day' and still loose weight. you just have to be careful that treat day doesn't turn into 2 or 3.. or even more days..

I must admit that I always have a treat night after weigh in. Whether it's pizza and chips, burger and chips or today was chicken donner meat and salad in a wrap (no chips today for a change )

It just gives me something to look forward to, but I avoid my 'trigger' foods. I tend to stick to having M&Ms or Maltesers for a chocolate fix after. I wouldn't have cakes or biscuits as it just starts my cravings off and before I know it I'll want more and more and usually can't resist.

So I would say if you can just have one meal and then be completely on plan go for it, but try to avoid the foods you know will trip you up.

You are changing your life style not dieting? Are you never going to have anything not on your 'diet' list again?

I have been carb cycling, once day a week I have a very high carb day and ordered to have what I want ... in 4 weeks I did some weighg lifting and I lost 5.4lbs but 10 inches, 3.5 of that was off my waist. Playing with the metabolism isn't a bad thing ... the body gets used to the same old I've eaten badly to get out of plateaus in the past!

Have seomthing you will enjoy and don't over indulge ... for example I can cope with 3 large dominoes pizza slices but if I have 5-6 I feel like crap the next day!

I'm afraid I have no advice to go along side surgery though.

I love a cheat meal. Makes me appreciate food all the more. Plus after I eat it my body immediately rebels and puts me into a food coma 😂
