Does dieting get easier?

I've always loved food. I don't class myself as an over-eater but I'm very much foodie (when it comes to eating, not cooking ). For the past few days I've been looking at labels on most things I come across and been mental maths about how many calories that item would leave me for the day.

Surely this isn't it for the rest of my life? I like drinks with friends and chinese food (for example) etc. I didn't really notice what I was eating before (because like most people I just live life and carefully planing menus isn't really top priority). For me to stay at my current weight there are a lot of things (including sociable) I would have to cut down on, or out. Either that or starve myself so I can enjoy drink at the weekend or go out with the family for a meal.

Please tell me it gets easier and your taste buds suddenly start thinking lettuce is yummy

I LOVE food, that's my whole problem. I found it does get easier. You begin to learn more about what's in food rather than having to really read the labels.

For me, a diet cant be about restriction otherwise I'd end up feeling less 'in control' and probBly just binge. In my head I'm not restrictig anything, I'm "choosing" to eat healthier food and that mean I have total control of what I'm doing if i want to have the odd takeaway or night out or whatever then I will, but in total moderation and generally up my game for the rest of the week. Being on a diet doesnt mean my life has to stop! And it's all for my own benefit too.

Hope that makes sense, that's just how I see it my crazy head and.it helps me

It does get better! I don't really calorie count, I just make sure I make ok-ish choices. I never, ever say I'm on a diet cos as soon as I do I get really hungry but I do make an effort to eat healthily! I always have a treat day on Friday, which is usually pub and takeaway!

I tend to live by a little of what you fancy, as soon as I start depriving myself of something I want it more, so it makes sense to just have a small bit of it if I want, rather than waiting and ending up having a lot of it!

One thing I would say though, is use your calories wisely, you're not going to lose as much eating 1200 calories of shit as you would if you ate 1200 of fruit and veg! Plus you can eat more of the healthy stuff and eventually it does start to fill you up just as much as the crap does! I know an apple never seems as satisfying as a chocolate bar lol!

When I was dieting, it did get easier in time. I was in a really good mindset and the results were so motivating. I actually didn't want to eat anything 'bad' as I was doing so well. I really really want to get back to that lifestyle! But yes it does need to become a lifestyle change rather than a diet as the healthy changes can stay with you for life even when you're at your desired weight. Hope it gets easier for you soon

Dieting gets easier so do not worry. Just make it past the 2nd week and you won’t notice it anymore. You’ll actually be proud of not eating food stuff that’s not healthy for you.
I found an interesting article in the Fitness Magazine website titled “21 Ways to Make Your Diet 100% Easier”
Hope it helps.

I will never think lettuce is delicious but since I started really listening to what my body wanted it's been easier to shift the weight. These days I genuinely enjoy baked sweet potatoes or oven baked vegetables.

Dieting is never easy. That's why so many people fail. That's also why lifestyle changes are so much more important than a strict diet. When you eat better overall, there's no need to deprive yourself of the foods you love. You just learn to choose healthier options and to use moderation in everything.
