What are the healthiest cheeses?

Is Mozzarella cheese healthier than cheddar cheese? My friend always uses Mozzarella cheese and says it is. I am also wondering what other cheeses are the healthiest choices?

Thank you

Good question!!!

I know I would buy low fat cheeses until not so long ago and learnt if I wanted to eat foods more in their natural state full fat cheeses were best as low fat have more sodium. I still sometimes naturally put cathedral lightest cheese in my basket sometimes.

Cheese can be full of protein, calcium and other benefits but everything in moderation I think is the key. Enjoy less full fat over more low fat with more sodium and less taste usually.

Feta is a good cheese with salads both low in fat and calories.

An mozzarella cheese was disgusted recently with someone else who would use this cheese over others. I learnt it's low calories and high protein just make sure it's 100% mozzarella ... I keep meaning to buy some!

Hope this helps!

thanks Wobbles!! I use only mozzarella and feta. I try not to buy fat free dairy products (cheese, milk, yog, cottage cheese etc). I have heard that it's very unhealthy choices( in order to give some "eatable" look to fat free dairy products factories put looots of chemistry as ingredients into..is it's better to buy low fat dairy products and just eat/drink less;-)

Definitely no expert but happened to be something I'd read up on recently. I think it depends what you're looking for really. Full fat cheeses will be more calories for example (or at least on some)... everyone has their own ways I guess but I have been using feta a lot more, bought mozzarella the other day when I remembered and use less grated cheddar cheese.

I did buy many low fat, fat free products through my diet and I didn't do bad it's just as my journey has gone on I've changed things slowly as I see best at the time

I have tried feta cheese several times but I just don't like it. I also heard the same thing about eating those low-fat or fat-free dairy and cheese products. I love mozzarella cheese. I make sure I buy 100% too.

I thought that cheese was pretty much all treated the same way (high in protein and calories). Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

I have tried to go with the low fat approach too but sometimes I just get a craving for the bad stuff. It is horrible, cheese really is a big weakness for me and even though over the years I have cut back it is not something I totally cross off the list just yet.

I think like anything some are higher than others. Feta is lovely in omelettes with some nice sweet tomatoes and spinach

Someone told me once to stick to the white cheeses which are lower in fat and calories than the orange cheese. Not sure why, but that seems to hold true.

I like feta in salads. I can't eat it by itself but it makes a fantastic add-in ingredient to a lot of dishes.

Yes, cheddar cheese is healthier than mozzarella cheese because cheddar cheese contains more calories than mozzarella cheese.

Cheese is one of the best sources of calcium, protein and essential vitamins that you should try to eat as much as possible. The healthiest cheeses are Cheddar, Swiss, Colby, Monterey jack and mozzarella. Listen carefully, that’s the good news. The bad news is that most cheeses in this country are made with pasteurized milk, which means they are devoid of the good bacteria your body needs to fight infections and digest food properly. Pasteurized cheese is also made with lots of salt, so reduce your intake of cheese and eat organic cheese as much as possible. For calcium, you can always drink milk and eat dark, green leafy vegetables.
