Since I began my diet I have started to really pay attention to my food when I eat. I have consciously slowed myself down, chewing slower, trying to savor and taste more of my food.
I would get really annoyed when sitting down to eat with my (ex) boyfriend. He would wolf his food down so fast that I wasn't even half finished and he'd be filling his plate again. He'd eat a sandwich by shoving as much into his mouth as would fit and always reach for more food. It was pure gluttony and it actually appalled me. We even discussed it many times and he just couldn't be bothered with trying to have a little table manners even when we were out somewhere fancy.
The glaring differences in the way we ate a meal together made me even more conscious about eating properly. I slowed down even more and now I get full without eating as much. I got rid of that person from my life so I never feel like meal times are a race to the finish line these days.
