Ooo I'm glad this thread's popped up again! I've had a 4lb loss since Sunday, which according to the scales includes 1.6% body fat! I've done no exercise bar strength training because, well, I can't and have eaten absolutely loads each day. Macros are almost spot on too.

I'm not expecting to keep losing at this rate, it's a combination of a sudden diet change (now clean eating and vegan) and losing the weight I gained when got injured. It'll probably slow down from now and I'll lose very little. BUT it is possible to lose that much weight that quickly and healthily even if you've not got a lot to lose! (I'm 8st11 and 5'3)
If you are using scales or hand held monitors to meaure BF%, then they are next to useless, very sensitive to hydration etc.

btw, is the change to vegan for moral reasons?

I know the vast majority of mine's water loss, I put 4lb on over night when I hurt my groin, which I'd assume was mostly water retention, but I also pretty much sat on my arse for 2 weeks whilst it was healing. In terms of carbs though, I'm not eating less than before, I've just really cleaned my diet up. I'm still eating between 55-60% carbs.

The vegan change is a mix of moral and health reasons. I eat very little dairy anyway (bar chocolate and cheese) so I'm testing the waters to see if I can sustain it. And I don't think animal products are good for you anyway!

As you'd replied previously to thread and it was just coincidence I'd had a recent 8lbs result same number mentioned in subject your question of wondering was in line with my reply so I needed to point out my results were in no means unhealthy, a quick fix or damaging, I don't want people to think that's what I did. I was amazed with the results and as much as I love the scales going down it's not my main or only focus... Nothing wrong with being a tad excited over the scales at same time though.

To be honest I don't like calling the plan I did a 'detox' I think the word associates automatically to unhealthy but mine was a permanent food change plan in minds not starving myself supping lemon water all day dreaming of food , those diets/detox's I don't believe in, encourage or like ... I'm so glad I'm not drinking 6+ coffees a day now, headaches from withdrawal were horrible but I got it mild compared to reading other people's stories!

Fat loss was a 0. reault but any result is a result
A quick weight loss is a great motivator for many at the start, and contrary to the general assumption that weight loss should be slow and steady, there is a case to be made (for those with a lot to lose) that rapid 'fat' loss in the first 4-6 weeks is a very positive outcome, which can install discipline and motivation for the long haul.

I mean, even someone like me without much to lose gets pretty irritated at the idea of 1/2 loud a week (which is what I am looking at), image a pound a week when you have 150 to lose.

So I definitely think there is a case for large calorie deficits in the short term PROVIDING everything is done to minimise muscle loss, like adequate protein, and some resistance training.

Super low fat is awful, it stuffs up people's hormones. damages cellular membrane health if done chronically, but a moderate protein, lowish fat, lowish carb approach can see some pretty spectacular results if you dial in those macros properly and set the calories correctly.

Good luck to you, hope things are going ok
Yer things are going great thanks feeling much better within myself again.

My fat loss wasn't major, I think over this last 4 weeks I've lost around 1.2% but I am training (running) and some interval, mostly for a charity run.

My weight loss from bloating was great because I could see where I slipped and wrong foods/drinks were the cause so I put back some discipline. My food habits have changed again, I gained some back then lost some last week and this week a mere 0.4lb difference which I am very happy with.

I eat the right foods, the girl who has been helping train me up running is a nutritionist. Even went through my fridge with me once

I'm not on a 'diet', I'm eating right for my goals couple of lbs were bound to come off with the kick up backside because I'd slipped (even the pictures showed my steadily going backwards approach) now the lbs are just a bonus even 0.1, I'm aiming for inches and shape but I'm not saying no to being back on track if some lbs came with it

But either way for the 15 months of my journey before clean eating I must have done it right because I have succeeded I've never followed no carb diets, have plenty of protein and choosing good fats.

Fair enough, what makes you think animal products aren't good for you? I agree that highly processed meats are most likely not, dairy is relatively recent, and pasteurisation and homogenisation messes that up. Be interested to gt your views on the other animal products.

It's always nice to discuss differing viewpoints

The blog was a good read, long but good. I think a good bit of mine is the salt issue which I still battle. Also, on the talks of animal products it really surprises me so it is an interesting thing to look out for on boards like this. I know many people who don't eat meat for various reasons, but three will eat seafood for the exact same reasons most eat (red) meats.

I agree about the non-meat eaters who still eat fish, AND call themselves vegetarians, I have family members like that :-)

Flesh is flesh, but as soon as you get into the vegetarian, vegan ethos, you are also getting into a whole new world of contradiction, but that is another story.

There is no evidence that red meat is bad for health, all there have ever been in reality, are studies that produce a correlation between red meat consumption and disease. Correlation just is not good enough to make a judgement, it can only suggest a hypothesis for further testing.

Even the China Study, which so many non meat eaters cite is full of flaws.

I personally believe that red meat is fine, but mix things up, have fish, poultry, wild game, have days with no meat, some days with lots.

I certainly don't subscribe to that wishy washy 'everything in moderation' paradigm, which really offers nothing :-), but considering we have been eating meat for hundreds of thousands of years, it's probably not THAT bad for us.
