Iceberg lettuce is meaningless
That is something my friend said to me yesterday. She's right though. It doesn't have much nutritional value. I'll try to stick to the more healthy lettuce varieties and raw spinach for my salads. If I am going to eat less food on a diet, I would like to at least get more nutrition from it.

I kind of feel the same way but still, lettuce is lettuce in a pinch. I know many people that only get this one type because it is always on sale. When we do our salad nights we try to get at least two or three types in, this way everything is covered.

I think it gets a bit of a bad rap as you always get wilted lettuce on fast food burgers. I quite like it though, it has a nice crisp texture

It's a good filler for bulking up salads. Plus, I agree, it has a nice crunch that other kinds don't really have. I like mixing spinach, butter lettuce, and iceberg. There's a great variety of texture when you mix it up.

I agree, it's a little weak when it comes to dietary fulfillment. I like Poppy's idea of mixing lettuce for salads, that's what we usually do, even if it's just for a variety in tastes.

That's what I usually do also. I like a mixed salad but I concentrate more on adding tomatoes, cucumbers, and all those other goodies in the bowl too.
It won't be long now before all the fresh spring greens will be available at the farmer's markets.

Surely all lettuce is the same when it comes to nutritional value? I mainly use lettuce to bulk up a salad, as none of them really taste of anything, and I like Iceberg because it stays crispy in the fridge for the longest time.

I like it. It's mainly water so perfect diet food for me, throw in some cucumber, tomato, peppers and ham and it's yum I don't mind about nutritional value.

I like iceberg because it's crispy but I often buy mized leaf salad bags, the pepper one is nice
