Alcohol

Before we decided to clean up our diet and lifestyle, my husband and I used to like the occasional drink. It really was occasional-maybe four or five times a year, on Christmas, our anniversary and so on.

But now that we're on a clean diet we haven't the calories to spare. Anyone else found the same?

No, not exactly the same. I still consider myself what others call a "social drinker". I am okay with burning extra calories off if say we end up kid free for an evening (and a date night). I know many people never realize how many calories are in beer, wine or whiskey though and it always shocks me. It is not like we are drinking a health shake, we are drinking empty (but sometimes fun) calories.

I used to drink a lot and I found it made me put a lot of weight on. Plus when I've had a drink it makes me insanely hungry and I just eat so much. I would rather save the calories for some nutritious food now. I've not drank in almost three weeks and feel so much healthier for it.

Actually, I only drank when I was a teenager. I know it was wrong and I was underage, but I did it. I don't like the taste of alcohol, I just liked the feeling of being drunk, oddly enough. I haven't drank any alcohol since I was 18, mostly for moral reasons. I just don't like the thought of drugs or alcohol entering my body.

I was never a big drinker to be honest. It makes me tired, hungry, and then I can't sleep! Plus, I'm a cheap drunk anyways. If you want to cut back on calories, I'd suggest sticking with a clear drink like vodka martini's or something like that. Vodka cranberry was a past time favorite when I did drink.

I was never really a drinker so giving up the social drinking wasn't a problem. I never even missed it at all. It really is just empty calories. I would rather have chocolate cake if I am going to do that!

I think most people do not realize how many calories are in drinks, no matter what they are drinking. For some reason when it comes to the adult beverage people think calories do not count or that there are very few to begin with.

I never count alcohol calories we don't tend to drink in the house, but Friday nights we'll usually be found propping up the bar in our local if I'm in diet mode, I'll drink less or have something low calorie, but usually it's a bottle of red wine. I'll definitely be cutting back a bit now though cos I'm working saturdays and don't fancy working hung over! I can't hack big hangovers any more!

Alcohol is one of the first things my mom and I cut back on when we started dieting a few years back. She lost about 90 pounds over the course of a couple years, although she made more changes than just cutting out alcohol. I know what you mean, though. Now that I'm counting carbs, alcohol (and pretty much all other non-diet drinks) are pretty well off-limits. I just never have the calories/carbs to "spare" on them. It's like running out of money, ha!
