Intermittent fasting

Is there any truth that this works as a dieting plan? I keep reading about it online where you only eat at certain times of the day and then break for the rest. I don't see how this would work unless you are also counting everything you eat (carbohydrate, calories in general, fats, etc.).

I think it's meant to keep the metabolism on it's feet as it never knows where it is with the intermittent fasting so it won't go into starvation mode. I'm not sure if there are any facts behind it though, and I've never tried it myself

I am quite hesitant to try it but I was wondering the same thing. Also, if you can change the times of the day. Say on Monday you only eat in the morning hours, Tuesday you go for evenings and so on.

This is the first time I have heard of this. I am going to look for more information on this. I bet it does have to do with metabolism. I am willing to try it if it works!

It does work in my experience of co-workers who have followed the plan. However, once they come off the diet they gain all of the weight back. It's just not a sustainable way of life, and that's what people really need.

If anyone is interested, I've put together a FREEBIE fasting guide to give away in pdf or epub format.

I don't think IF is the holy grail of dieting, but it does provide a way of managing meal timings and hunger, something many diets just don't do.

There are of course, some hormonal and potential health benefits of fasting, but for most folks, the ability to eat larger meals in the evening is cool.

I know that 5:2 works for some people, I prefer daily fasting a la 16:8 or similar, but it's horses for courses.

If anyone wants a free ebook which covers why fast, which protocols to use, how to set daily intake, measuring progress etc, and IF and training, head on over to my blog to pick it up here.

Appreciate it if a few RF members took some time to take a look.

It's up on Amazon too, but those pesky Amazon folks wouldn't let me do it for free, so it's a startling 77 pence.

I don't like to eat larger meals in the evening. I feel like I don't get enough exercise after the large meal. I would love to take a look at your book though. I'm always looking for more information on how to be healthier.

Not everyone likes the larger meals, but exercise around it / after it is irrelevant. It's all about the calories youn intake vs the ones you expend, averaged out over a week is preferable. The whole fallacy of 'large meals' or 'carbs' before bed 'makes you fat' is just that, a fallacy. There is simply no truth in it at all.

Now, carbs in quantity might not be right for you, your exercise and activity levels etc, but eating them late makes not a jot of difference to whether you get fat or not. In fact, if you eat them early, you just turn fat mobilisation and utilisation off, so oats, toast or whatever for breakfast is probably the worst thing one can do. But, at the end of the day, the numbers are king, energy balance and all that jazz, but there are 'better' ways to manage it, and 'less good' ones.
