I am diabetic so I cannot agree that any sort of diet where you fast and then eat is healthy. Maintaining a level blood sugar is pretty important for everyone.

Hi

And what do you base that on? Sure, fasting in an extreme way is not ideal for the diabetic who does not understand the fasting process, but actually, many type 2's would actually maintain improved blood sugar levels if they fasted in the morning (assuming they are hyperglycemic).

It's not necessary though, but keeping the carbs lowish (compared to what almost everyone else eats) is probably a good idea.

I will have to do some research on this, but don't you think the old rule of "grazing" and keeping your metabolism working consistently is a better way to go? Truthfully, I don't know anything about the intermittent fasting plan, but right off the hop, it sounds fishy to me.

Sorry to burst the age old bubble, but the eating little and often to keep the metabolism fired up is just another one of those tales we've just believed forever.

Sure, eating raises the metabolism, there's this 'thing' called the Thermic Effect Of Feeding, the energy required to break down food.

BUT, eating a little raises the metabolism a little, and for a relatively short time. Eating less, bigger meals, raises the metabolism more, and for longer.

There really is no way to hack metabolism buy grazing. The energy requirements to break down a days worth of food is the same, irrespective of how the meal sizings are broken down.

And there is nothing inherently FISHY about hte principle of IF, although many of the books on the subject, the ones that tell you 'you can eat WHATEVER you want' for 5 days of the week are pretty much just trying to make money from people who just refuse to acknoweldge that many of the modern foods they are eating should not be entering their bodies (well at least not too often).

I've been doing the IF program and I've seen some success. Is anyone on to talk about it or is this group dead?

Hey all I know this is an old blog but if anyone is still listening there is a very informative YouTube channel that I would recommend to anyone to watch. Go to Fledge Fitness and watch Edwards videos. They're great and very informative and at times rather entertaining. It's my daily go to for IF information. Check it out and you wont regret it.
