Liking to cook

My friend is trying to lose weight so she is dieting. Her problem is she hates to cook so she orders out often. I told her that you can't really diet if you don't like to cook. Do you think that is an accurate statement?

I love to cook and I'm always looking for healthier ways to make the things that we like to eat. I guess if you bought the prepackaged diet meals (Weight Watchers, Atkins, etc.) you could diet and not cook.

I disagree with that statement. Even if you don't like to cook, you can still watch what you eat. For example, if you like to eat fast food a lot, order off the kids' menus instead of the adult menus for an automatic downsize in portions. Order side salads instead of fries. Order diet soda or water instead of regular soda. As an alternative, stock the freezer with Lean Cuisine type meals. Then all you have to do is pop one in the microwave.

It's true in some ways. I don't think you have as many options to choose from, but it is still doable. I imagine it would get very expensive just eating freezer meals, though. In my experience, it is always cheaper to cook your own meals.

I think it's easiest to diet when you like to cook or are at least willing to cook, but it's not impossible to diet if you don't like to cook. You can work around it, but it does present a challenge.

I think that if all you ever do is eat out, you're going to have trouble losing weight. For one thing, portion sizes are huge and for another, you have very little control over how the food is cooked. You don't even know what all goes into the food in a lot of cases.

I would think it's easier to diet if you like to cook, but u wouldn't say it's impossible if not. She could choose lower calorie dishes from menus etc, but I guess it would be very expensive and takeaway foods often have a lot of additives in.
