Dieting versus Exercising
I know that dieting and exercising are both integral parts of a long-term weight management plan, but which do you think has the greater impact? For example, if you diet but don't exercise OR if you exercise but don't diet, which do you think would be more detrimental to your success?
Diet's definitely the most important! Weight loss is something like 80% diet ad 20% exercise, so you could spend hours and hours in the gym, but if you're living on a diet of high fat/sugar stuff, you'll never lose the weight!
I think exercise is still important, it's what keeps us healthy and strong, but you can lose a lot of weight without too much exercise. (not that I'm reccomending it
but I did hardly do any exercise whilst losing all my weight!)
Diet...but with that said you get a better 'finish' with exercise
I think exercise is important to tone yourself while losing weight so you don't become too saggy. I have managed to lose about ten pounds in the last few months with just diet alone. I've mentioned this before; I've had two spinal surgeries which left me with a lot nerve damage and problems so I can't exercise beyond doing a little walking, some light swimming, and stretching.
I think you can obviously lose weight with just dieting. But, you might not be doing your body justice if you ignore doing exercise. The reason that both work so well together is that you are giving your body a new mold to work with. I think both are crucial because if you just diet, yes you can lose weight if done correctly, but you will be weaker and flabby.
I like to do both. But I do think that if I had to pick only one to do, I would definitely choose diet over exercise. But, both are important. Exercising helps to tone your body.
Whilst diet is the most important I think that exercise is almost as important. I know for me if I exercise as well I do far better.
I think the better way to go if you're not going to do both would be to focus on diet alone -- assuming that your end goal is to drop weight. Now, if we're talking about overall health and not just dropping pounds, I'd say that exercising without dieting is better. (Not that you shouldn't watch what you eat, because you should.) Exercise helps build and maintain muscle mass; it helps elevate your mood and combats depression; it helps with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and regulating insulin and blood sugar levels; and it increases your aerobic capacity and keeps your heart and lungs in tip-top shape.
I think diet is the most important as it would take a lot of working out to exercise away a bad diet! I think exercise is important too though as it has so many benefits
I have to say, I do wish I'd done some proper exercise earlier into my journey. I'm properly flabby, although I don't know if exercising whilst losing would actually have helped cos my skin was so stretched from pregnancies!
