Wow! This sounds like a kind of hybrid diet that is a cross between semi-fasting and the HCG diet (only you don't go in for hormone injections). How hard is it to stay within the 500 or 600 calories on your two fasting days? Do they have to be back to back?

No you choose any 2 days. Seemingly as time goes on you eat less on your days off too. X

Wow, those would be some rough days. I hadn't heard of this specific diet, although I have heard of intermittent fasting and this is pretty close to that.
It is meant to be a really good diet and has very positive effects for diabetics especially
I don't understand how that is possible. Diabetics are supposed to keep their blood sugar levels within a certain range. Eating so little can wreak havoc on blood sugar.

Navigating diets can be so tricky!

I'm not sure how it works but heard a nutrionalist talking about it on tv this week she said that initially she dismissed it as another faddy diet but scientists have seemingly proven that its good for you and can help diabetics as it actually is proven that diabetics have more stable blood sugars on fast days xx

I tried it last year (admittedly I only lasted two weeks ) and it was pretty easy to follow, but I didn't find it increased my weightloss personally.

However, my mums been on it for the last 3 weeks and has lost 13lbs so far! You really learn a lot about calories and how little you actually can make your meals calorie-wise, while still eating a bit.

Some people take glucomannan with it, which is a natural appetite suppressant, lowers cholesterol, is a source of fibre, absorbs fat and oil from your diet, which is all scientifically proven. I tried the glucomannan, and it does make you feel full, but made me wana go the loo more because of the fibre, so had a sickly feeling a lot (which I get anyway, was just more regular with the glucomannan!)

I've read an awful lot about it tho, and it seems to have really good review and results. Was tempted to try again but gonna see how I go with MFP

Kiwi -- That's great that your mom has already lost 13 pounds!

What about exercise on your fasting days? Are you supposed to refrain from working out since you are already eating so little?

Im really pleased for her! She actually text me last night and said she had hit the 1stone mark!

As far as I can remember they recommend exercising on your non fast days, because of how little calories you're having. I think I went to the gym once on a fast day and it was pretty hard going!

It's pretty flexible tho, you can change your day if you need to, but they say not to do two consecutive fast days (one after the other)

If anyone is interested, I've put together a FREEBIE fasting guide to give away in pdf or epub format.

I don't think IF is the holy grail of dieting, but it does provide a way of managing meal timings and hunger, something many diets just don't do.

There are of course, some hormonal and potential health benefits of fasting, but for most folks, the ability to eat larger meals in the evening is cool.

I know that 5:2 works for some people, I prefer daily fasting a la 16:8 or similar, but it's horses for courses.

If anyone wants a free ebook which covers why fast, which protocols to use, how to set daily intake, measuring progress etc, and IF and training, head on over to my blog to pick it up here.

Appreciate it if a few RF members took some time to take a look.

It's up on Amazon too, but those pesky Amazon folks wouldn't let me do it for free, so it's a startling 77 pence.

hi Mamafy you can try with this ten diet foods

10. Almonds - Almonds are definitely one of the best diet foods. They are packed with protein and fiber which aid in feeling full.

9. Apples - Apples are high in fiber and are largely composed of water. This helps you feel fuller which leads to less calories eaten. They make a great snack between meals. Apples also contain antioxidants that help prevent metabolic syndrome.

8. Beans - Beans are a great source of protein, fiber and resistant starch. Protein and fiber are extremely important for weight loss (see above), and resistant starch helps your body resist the urge to store fat.

7. Cauliflower - Cauliflower is a great source of Vitamin C. Plus, this veggie is a proven cancer fighter.

6. Cinnamon - Cinnamon can help you control blood sugar levels. Cinnamon naturally brings out the sweetness in foods and can help you fight urges for sweets. Mix it in as a spice!

5. Berries - Berries are high in fiber. Their antioxidants can also help your workouts by increasing blood flow. Berries are some of the best diet foods around because they're convenient, healthy and tasty!

4. Salmon - Salmon fillets offer around 21 g of protein! That is as much as a typical scoop of powdered protein. Salmon is not only loaded with protein, it also contains healthy fats called polyunsaturated fats.

3. Spinach - Spinach is low on calories, high on fiber and contains calcium, which can help provide a boost to your workouts. It also has Vitamin C and E, and no fat! Try it soup, salads, sandwiches and more.

2. Broccoli - Broccoli contains a great amount of fiber and Vitamin A. It is a great snack to keep you feeling full and full of energy throughout the day.

1. Eggs - The last item on our list of the best diet foods are eggs. Eggs are the ultimate breakfast food. They're packed with protein and amino acids to keep you feeling full and aid in muscle growth. Studies show that eggs in the morning made participants feel fuller than when eating things like bagels. They're full of vitamins and are easy to mix with other healthy options like vegetables. For a fat free egg, remove the yolks.
