Cutting pineapple

I was trying to cut a pineapple to have for snacks and I totally butchered it. I know there must be an easier way to do this!

First I cut all the hard skin off and then I tried to cut around inside to get that center part out and made a mess of things.

It's still perfectly tasty all chopped up, but it doesn't look very pretty.

I usually buy from a vendor who cuts it up for me. He does it so quickly and makes it look really easy. When I try it at home I use Jeans' method and I always get mixed results. The riper the pineapple, the messier the process.

Jean and Boogie, it seems that you both have the correct technique. The problem could be with the tools you are using. Your knife has to be extremely sharp for the best results. If not, you're bound to have juice all over your hands, cutting board and counter.

I cut the top and bottom off, then do the sides and then just chop it up! I don't bother taking the middle out! That said though, my mum's got a gadget where you cut the top off, wind the thing into it and it's a bit like a corkscrew and takes the middle out too! So you just pull it out and then chop up the flesh!
