10 Foods that boost hydration

Over half of our bodies are made up of water, and almost all bodily functions rely on us being sufficiently hydrated. However, drinking enough water can be difficult. And when your body starts to become dehydrated, it can result in side effects such as dizziness, headaches, moodiness, and even hunger.

Luckily, water isn’t the only way to boost your hydration. Below are ten foods you can eat to help boost and maintain proper hydration that your body requires throughout the day.

1. Cucumbers – Cucumbers are made up of 96.99% water, making them the food with the highest water content. Also, high in vitamin K, vitamin B6, and iron cucumbers are a great snack or addition to any salad or even to a glass of water for some extra flavor.

2. Radishes – To maximize the hydrating benefits of the radish, peel the skin off to remove some of the fiber. If you need the fiber in your diet, leave the skin on. 95.69% of the radish is made up of water, making it a great snack to prevent dehydration.

3. Celery – Celery is almost all water, at 96%, it has almost no calories and gives key amino acids, and vitamins that can effectively hydrate your body.

4. Tomatoes – Comprised of 94.94% water, tomatoes are a great addition to your sandwich or salad to boost the moisture and take the place of higher calorie condiments.

5. Zucchini – As well as being one of the most hydrating vegetables, coming in at 94.35% water, zucchini is also an excellent source of potassium, folate, and vitamins A and C.

6. Eggplant – Eggplants are low in calories but high in fiber and water making them incredibly hydrating. 92.44% of an eggplant is made up of water. Prepare your eggplant anyway you want to, but try to avoid frying as the eggplant will absorb a lot of oil and negate the water and calorie advantage it naturally has.

7. Watermelon – Watermelon is everyone's favorite summer fruit, and it's a good thing. A study from the University of Aberdeen Medical School showed that watermelon’s combination of natural sugars, salts, and minerals hydrates better than man-made sports drinks. This juicy fruit also gives sodium, magnesium, calcium, and potassium.

8. Spinach – One cup of spinach contains only seven calories and is 91.33% water, making it a great choice if you are trying to lose weight. In addition, one cup of raw spinach gives you more than fifty percent of your daily vitamin A, and is high in protein and vitamin C, keeping you feeling full.

9. Strawberries – Strawberries are 92% water and are high in vitamin B and folate. You can easily add strawberries to any meal throughout the day, or snack on these hydrating berries on their own.

10. Apples – Apples are a superfood, and one a day is said to keep the doctor away. Made up of 85.6% water, apples can help keep you hydrated, contribute to weight loss, and help prevent cardiovascular disease, asthma, and diabetes. You can eat apples as the raw fruit, or enjoy it as applesauce, as long as you stick with the natural, unsweetened varieties.
If you struggle with drinking enough water and staying hydrated, all hope is not lost. There are many foods that you can eat to help keep your body hydrated and functioning at its best. Reach for these foods when you are craving a snack to help curb your hunger and give your hydration a boost.

Iceberg lettuce and bananas also boost hydration.

Making vegetable soups and using light broths also a good lunch choice!
