The carb debate

So what's the deal with carbs, good vs bad? I've heard the whole wheat thing but..
Anyone here ever read the book Wheat Belly? It was suggested to me by a professor during undergrad, he had us read some bits of it.

How do some people get away with pastas and white rice everyday? Is the whole carbs thing a myth?

I eat as much rice, pasta and potatoes as I like on SW and lose around 2lb a week. It doesn't work for everyone. I seem to need the carbs to feed my mitochondria as I've got M.E. You need to work out what suits your body.

There is evidence for each and every diet out there. Finding one that YOU can cope with is key I think.
I have low carbed through atkins when I ate meat still and also while powerlifting - using protein shakes etc to supplement and try to heal muscles quicker etc.

Now I'm veggie and not training hard. I struggled on my own to lose weight this time around so opted for a support network in Slimming world. It's doing the trick. I don't eat a lot of pasta or rice, if I do it's wholemeal pasta and brown rice, just a preference not a 'rule' .
