Coconut Oil

Has anyone tried cooking with coconut oil?

I've been reading about and on another dieting forum and I noticed it mentioned a few times. Does it make your food coconutty?

Seems bizarre that something that is so high in saturated fat is mentioned quite often when it comes to dieting. Does anyone know why? Is its dieting properties an old wifes tale?

Yes! I love it! It took a few tries for me to get used to it but I really enjoy it now. I think there is a slight taste of coconut but it is barely noticeable after a while. It is high in saturated fat, but saturated fats can be the best for cooking with as they're more stable and have a high smoking point. I cook most things in butter or coconut oil these days

Wobbles bought some last week. It smells quite strong of coconut when you fry with it but I personally can't taste it at all when it's cooked. Didn't realise it was high in saturated fat. I wonder with it having such a high smoking point if it's any good for cooking steak?
