Restaurant Sabotage
Going out to eat can be a diet sabotage, even when you think you made a healthy choice. Did you know that most restaurants add a dollop of butter to the top of a steak to make it look juicier when it is served? That can add 100's of calories. Vegetables are often doused in butter or oils, even when steamed. Salads are topped with unhealthy things like bacon and cheese. Dressings and sauces are overused. You should always ask for them on the side.

They really can be, Bevziibubble. I have taken to asking my waiter/waitress if they add the butter to steaks as I order. 9 times out of 10 they say yes. I always ask them not to do so. They are usually pretty accommodating.

Apparently wetherspoons and other chain pubs deep fry their jacket potatoes to make them more crispy it really shocked me that!

Ahh yes I heard about the potatoes. I was surprised as I had never heard of deep fried jacket potatoes before!

It's quite common to do it with roast potatoes too, according to my OH! He keeps trying to get me to fry some!

This is one thing that I really hate about dieting, because I love to dine out! It's not really something you can do a lot of when you're trying to lose weight, though, because you have so little control over ingredients and cooking methods.

Why would they ruin a perfectly good food like a jacket potato by throwing it into a vat of oil?
There are restaurants where you can get low-cal or "heart healthy" plates. I don't eat out too often, so when I do get the chance, I consider that a splurge and order what I want. It's okay to do that sometimes.

I put butter on top of my filet mignon last night and it was superb! Hey, it's better than margarine darn it. That stuff will clog your heart. Butter, you can work it off.

I agree! I use butter every time over margarine!
