Values on the go

I tend to have a big issue when it comes to values, the biggest times I face is this if I want to pick up something from our local market and they do not list anything. They will list ingredients but they don't break down anything else. The other time is when we are out to eat and the menu does not list it. Does anyone have tips for how to get values when you get stuck like this?

When it comes to the menus, I am not sure, other than trying to ask the cook. When it comes to store-bought foods, you can try looking up their ingredient list and food values online.

When we eat out at restaurants I try to look on their website beforehand to see what the nutritional value of dishes are. It is inconvenient when they don't list them though, I understand your frustration!

That is what makes it so tricky about eating out at restaurants. You just never know what ingredients are in the food and how much. You can't even be sure what kind of oil they use.

That is a good tip, Bevziibubble, if it's a chain restaurant they may have it on their website. I know the fast food places do.

A great tip is to look up the menu prior to going. You can also ask your waiter/waitress for something to be made a specific way. You can also ask to know how something is cooked. They might think you are a pain but your waistline will thank you.

When in doubt, always go with the healthiest option available. There was a news story a little while back that discovered that even when restaurants did post calories and fat totals, they were off more often than not. So their calculations are not exact anyways.

I try to visit the site before hand but I have a very indecisive family, sometimes we head out to one place and end up at another. Trying to check the site online from my phone when we are there is a pain. My local market never marks down what is in the deli stuff and it just drives me nuts.

Most people go out to eat maybe once or twice a week with people they love to be with and spend time shaking off the week.why in the world would you bother if all you want to do is have a chef re hash the dish agonise over the calorie/fat/carb count and push grilled skinless chicken round undressed rocket! Spend an evening or lunch watching everyone else diving in! Mercifully i have never been in the company of someone who who whips out the phone and checks out the ingredients while reading the menu? If youre taking meds and / or allergic to something then obviously ask the chef to hold the offending item but either the diet fits in as part of a happy healthy you or it doesnt work! And you can always have lemon water the next day!!
