Spicy foods and weight loss

Someone once told me that spicy foods are better for weight loss. Does anyone know if that's true? I'm wondering if it has more to do with healthier ingredients than added spice.

I have heard that adding spices to food such as Tabasco or chilli pepper will help to suppress the appetite so I think that there is some truth in it

I have heard the same thing. I also heard that if you eat spicy food they are easier to digest. I'm not sure why. I don't like spicy foods. I have tried them but my stomach doesn't handle them very well.

I've heard the spiciness raises your metabolism but that always sounded like a dubious explanation to me. One advantage of using more spices is that you depend less on things like dairy to enhance flavor, so that alone would help with weight loss.
