Caramel sauce/syrup

Of all dessert foods, sauces, and whips, caramel is the one that gets me every time. I really, really love it...but I don't love how bad it is for me. There's no way that anything made with sugar, cream, AND butter can be good for you, but it sure does taste wonderful.

I've tried sugar free sauces, but they all taste like plastic, and the high fructose corn syrup is even worse than having caramel sauce that's made from scratch. Has anyone ever found a decent substitute?

You could make it with milk instead of cream but it still doesn't make it healthy

I've tried the sugar-free caramel sauces, too, and you're right -- they don't taste the same! I used to love dipping apple slices into caramel sauce but since I've started doing Weight Watchers, I've had to stop doing that and just eat the apple slices by themselves.

Is it just me or when you put sugar free in front any desert name it suddenly loses all appeal Caramel is 80% sugar usually, whatever you try replacing it just isn't going to end up being caramel

A family member actually had a great idea. Torani makes sugar free flavored syrups for coffee, and while it's nowhere near the same as sauce from scratch, it actually does taste pretty good! You can't use it as a dip or anything, but for a caramel lover like me, just having it in my coffee is good enough.

I also discovered that Adagio Teas has a few caramel tea blends. I may find my workaround yet.
