Best Way to Prepare for a Hiking Trip?

I'm probably going to sign up for a "walking tour" vacation. These walks are really hikes. I hate being the slowest one in the group. Even though I pick the "easy to moderate" level, I have found these trips difficult in the past. Anyone have advice about what I can do to build up my ability to walk faster, uphill and downhill, for a few hours each day?

I'd say the TM is best as you can control speed and gradient (is that the right word) lol! ... Do you use the gym?

I've always prepared by walking for 20 minutes each day leading up to the hike. It helps to build your endurance. As far as the hike itself...make sure that you stretch thoroughly beforehand. Drinking lots of water helps, too.
