Any ideas for exercise without putting pressure on feet

Hi all

I am seeing a doctor on Tuesday about my feet - suspect it's Plantar Fasciitis in which case I understand high impact exercise isn't good for it. Obviously I hope she can help me out suggesting a few things, but in the meantime -

I just wondered if anyone has any advice on some exercise I could be doing this week as I had a bit of a problem this week with what I was doing.

This is what I was attempting:

So I tried Bob Harper's Beginners Strength DVD a few days - and loved it. However, have found due to doing lunging and squatting I think I have put pressure on the foot again - and it's knackered lol

Tried cycling on my bike which is on a stand thinking that wouldn't put pressure on my foot - but seems that's impossible right now too (so frustrated as would love to take advantage of feeling this motivated)

Previously I was doing the 10 minute cardio burn dvd from biggest loser - and that was kind of ok provided I didn't jump - so should I go back to that and do it every day? Or can anyone suggest something I could do without causing any more injury to my foot.

Thanks so much in advance for any suggestions

Could you try pilates or swimming? Being injured and in pain sucks, but you really need to take it slow and not over do it. My MIL reminded me the other day that I'd had a few runs where my leg hurt before it went big time!

I hope it feels better soon xx

Thanks very much, that's brilliant advice - I have been putting off swimming because I am so embarrassed in a swimsuit hehe but I want the exercise more than I care about being embarrassed so I think that would be the very best way to go - thanks again, and hope you're much better with your leg xxx

Get weights and physical exercise tapes, they have all types of workouts you can do sitting down, without having to place any pressure on your feet. You can also get the exercise ball, and do all types of working out on it (including abs, and so on.) - it also increases balance. It's amazing and enjoyable. Once you get a little better and when you can still not put pressure in your feet, you could start swimming. It's the very best exercise ever, you would be using every muscle within your body without exercising any pressure, as well as increasing your flexibility.

I agree swimming is great. The water is really good at supporting the body as you swim so you don't have to put weight on anything.
Good luck with the exercise

I've been dealing with plantar fasciitis for months and months now. I've been hobbling around. Luckily, it is just one foot and it is better than it was. The doctor did a cortisone injection and told me to wear arch supports in my shoes. He also advised me to take either ibuprofen or Tylenol regularly to reduce the swelling and help with pain. I also use ice on it when it really acts up. He showed me some foot stretches to do too.

It can take up to a year to get over plantar fasciitis and then it can come back. It is extremely important to wear good shoes and arch supports. I still can't do anything with impact or walk long distances.

You can still work out with weights or ride a bike. Yoga, pilates, swimming, and anything like that is possible too.

Thanks so much all And thanks for all your advice Jeans, that's great and really helpful. Nice to hear yoga is ok as there is a free class near me for Internationals which I have been desperate to go to. Have the shoes and inserts and been doing some foot stretches - it hurts a lot less recently provided I don't over do it Thanks again everyone, all brilliant advice. xxx
