Scanning food products

I know there are a bunch of apps out there to scan the bar-codes of foods but does anyone else run into this issue too? I can scan one thing and it works fine, scan another and it flakes out. It seems like even when the bar-codes are not smuged they still render "unclear" to a (clean) cellphone camera.

What phone do you have?

I have iPhone 4s, and pretty much scan everything and have never had any problems.

I have an Android and I have found the same thing. I had a few apps with the "scanning" option and they never do seem to work consistently. I wonder if it is a phone thing more than an app thing?
