How can I lower the carb count of brownies?

What substitutions can I make in a brownie recipe so that it comes out with less carbs? I was making brownies from a box before but now I am going to have to give them up altogether or make them from scratch in such a way that the carb counts are lower...

If you use sugar, just use less sugar. There's nothing you can really change if you are making brownies from a box, but there are things you can change if you are making them from scratch.

I use this healthy recipe from Jillian Micheals. It uses whole wheat flour and honey instead of sugar. It is a great healthy option when you want a sweet treat.

Thanks for posting, Mini Me, but I'm not really sure that's much healthier than regular brownies. Where most instructions call for an 8x8 pan to be cut into 9 brownies, this one calls for it to be cut into 16. I think if I cut brownie mix brownies into 16 servings, I'd probably come out about the same!

Oh thank you Minime! I was thinking that I was going to have to give up brownies too. They are the one sweet that I really love. I can't wait to try Jillian's recipe. I do love her. I'll let you know how they turn out.

MandaBear, because it uses honey (which is a natural sweetener), apple sauce and whole wheat flour, these are definitely healthier. If you don't believe me here is the nutrition information on a regular Duncan Hines brownie : 120 calories, 2.5 g fat, 100 mg sodium and 24 g carbohydrates. In comparison the healthy version has 86.2 calories, 2.2 g fat. 63.6 mg sodium, and 16 g carbohydrates.
