Because she hasn't attended group since Xmas.

I've been going since Oct '16 and get the impression that membership is a rolling one.
People come, some reach target, people go, & some stay.

I believe you are allowed to miss some weeks, (maybe 4 or so per year) and these are called holidays, but if you don't turn up for weeks on end then your membership lapses. (possibly)

Ah, right, got you. Well I have never missed a class since I joined in Jan 2016. (We can't take holidays as I was full time carer for my mum until she recently went into respite following a fall & fractured hip). Not sure what others in our club have lost but know I will have lost the most in the past year of our particular class time of our club.

Not sure how that will help *ahem* my friend. #forgotmyselfthere

Maybe the group organiser puts forward a list of candidates and head office sends back the signed certificates ???

Paul, the tshirt print is fabulous!

And massively well done on the award although I couldn't have stood in front of everyone, and I applaud you for that
You get 6 holidays to use within each 12 months of your SW subscription. You don't actually have to go on holiday, but if you can't make it to group because you've got something planned, then you can use a holiday. It just means you don't get charged for that week that you don't attend. They are meant to be booked in advance, but sometimes if you notify your consultant on the day that you can't make it, they'll use one to cover your fee.

If you don't attend for more than 3 weeks without notifying your consultant, or booking any holidays with them, then Paul is correct and your membership lapses. The next time you attended group you would be asked whether you wanted to do a rejoin (lose your weight history and start again for £9.95) or keep your weight loss history and pay the back fees (£14.95). By choosing the second one at £14.95, you are likely to be entered for the greatest loser competition if you've still got the highest weight loss (I think!)

The greatest loser competition winner is chosen based on the person who has lost the most weight in the past 12 months, no matter how long a person has been a member. That information comes from the tablet your consultant uses. The winner in my group was a lady who has been with us less than 6 months and has lost 4 stone (she's fab!)
The consultant just writes the name of the winner on the pre-printed certificate on the night.
As far as I'm aware, you have to have weighed in during that session to be eligible.

The other competitions (man of the year, woman of the year, miss slinky, mr sleek) are all voted by the whole group the week before.
If a consultant runs more than one class, there is a winner in each class.

Does that make it any clearer? Or have I confused you more?

Thanks Sarah, at last a definitive answer to the thing I have been wondering (and googling about :-D ). There has been no mention of it at my group but I did attend another group recently and the leader there mention it was coming up but didn't elaborate. Do all SW groups wherever they are, award these at the same time of the year?

Yes they do. If you are on Facebook, the official Slimming World page posts about the current award when that week arrives.

Each consultant will notify people about the upcoming award usually a few weeks before, a lot of the time there is a party/taster session to go along with them. And the week prior they'll do nominations from the group (except for greatest loser )

We both missed weigh in this week, the first we've missed since we started last October.

Thursday evening Aileen was just about coming round from a general anaesthetic in Addenbrookes, and I couldn't be with her as I was at home recovering from pneumonia.

If we make it next week do we have to take a note ?

Oh dear! I hope you're both feeling better now?
And if you have let your consultant know why you weren't there, they can override your fees. You can always message them now and explain why you couldn't go.
Although for those at target, it doesn't matter. As they don't pay anyway, they can miss a couple of weeks (up to 4 I think) without incurring any fees ... unless they go outside their target range for more than 1 week.
