Homemade Soup

Would a pot of soup made with veg and lentils be a SP choice?

I don't really like meat in soup. I sometimes add a bit of cooked chicken because that cooks right down. I thought for protein lentils would make a change.

I keep used pots of marmite where there is a tiny bit at the bottom of the jar and add hot water and stir up and add to soup to give it a beefy taste.

As long as everything used in the soup has an S or P next to it in your book, then yes, it will be an SP meal
You can still use store cupboard ingredients like salt, pepper, stock cubes in recipes, even when making something SP.

Thanks Sarah for the helpful information.

New to all this and just trying to get my bearings and start planning meals for the coming week.

Hi Lindy,

One of my mainstays of my diet during my over 8 stone weight-loss time last year was veg soup. It is a great filler and really carried me through and still eat it now. And especially when I waver.

My recipe is simple: turnip (chopped into cubes), carrots and celery (sliced),
onions or leeks, sliced. Boiling water and salt and ground black pepper. No need for a stock cube.

And here's the thing ... I have made it for fellow slimmers and in one I served it as it was, in another partially blended ( took half veg out and blended rest and added unblended veg back in) and 3rd totally blended. Result was a tie. Some preferred the unadulterated version (like me) the rest came down one side or the other.

But the thing to take from this is deffo make veggie soup coz if really does help x ... and best of luck on your journey.

When I make soup I prefer to have all the chunky bits of veg and never blend it to make it smooth. I am aware that it is a personal choice with soup eaters. Even though when making the soup I tend to cube the veg...carrots, courgette, pumpkin, or whatever veg I have to hand. At the end of the day all the veg cooks right down and breaks up into much smaller bits and into a pulp anyway.

And yes I totally agree with you...soup is the best meal to have to keep on track...especially after going out for a meal with friends. I eat soup for a few days after to keep on track. And yes it does help with the scale results.
Right...I am off to have my soup dinner and watch a bit of telly!!
