Roasted chickpeas?

Hi just Googled walnuts - didn't find my answer (how many syns in 85g?) but I found this item. If you roast chickpeas, with salt or some spice, they taste like nuts AND are free on a green day. Is this true? I miss my peanuts! lol x

You can't use them as a substitute for nuts. It falls into the 'tweaks' category where you are using something free in place of another. The issue is that it becomes to easy to overeat them because you think they're free. Some people disagree with this and still use things as tweaks, so it's your decision.
If you do decide to do them, my suggestion would be maybe don't syn them the first time you do them, but if you really enjoy them and want to have them more, I would syn them at the same value that peanuts would be - 7.5 syns per 25g

Personally, I'd rather eat the actual thing than a substitute if it has the same syn value!

This is one thing I am not sure about, I consider them free because if you make humus out of them that is free, so if you ate half a tin of chickpeas as humus or as roasted chickpeas you would still be eating the same amount of chickpeas! It would technically be a tweak, but my consultant always says what Sarah says above, don't syn it and if you think it has negatively effected your weight loss then syn them. They're definitely better for you than nuts!

Thanks - I'll try them and see what they taste like. If they're yuk I'll have the real thing and syn them instead! Just thinking about nibbles but, yes, I can easily eat half a family size bag of nuts lol! x

You're right Ernie, using the chickpeas to make hummus is free.
The difference is that if you make it into hummus, you usually have the speed food along with it (carrot sticks, pepper, cucumber, etc) which means you aren't just eating the chickpeas and you're getting your 1/3 of veggies with it.

Eating them as peanuts, I can't imagine that anyone would eat them with speed foods at the same time. (I don't eat nuts as I don't like them, but anyone I know doesn't have a bag of nuts and a salad!! lol)

It's daft I know, but synning the roasted ones would help stop overeating them and help prevent any possible unwanted gains on those scales.

Makes sense to me...the only thing that goes with a bag of peanuts is an ice cold lager. Can you tell it's 28 degrees over here? I'm hallucinating cold pints of lager. Isn't it supposed to be autumn? Ah well I suppose it's better than 57 degrees. Where's the snow? Come ON! I wanna wear my pink longjohns!
