Should lunch be the heartier meal?

I've read that lunch was always the bigger meal back a hundred or more years ago. People back then needed the extra fuel to get through a hard day's labor. We also didn't have an obesity epidemic back then. Could there be a connection?

Maybe they had more time back then but for me I would not be cooking my main meal for the afternoon plus the kids are at school 5/7 days a week.

I have seen others say their main meal is afternoon but it wouldn't work for me for any reason. There are plenty of energy/fuel foods to eat for breakfast and lunch.

I find I overeat at bedtime if my main meal isnt in the evening!

I think it should be and dinner should be more of a snack type meal. Makes sense to me.
