Can't Get in the Habit

I have been "trying" to lose weight since about October. I walk, work out and do something physical everyday (low impact, I have arthritis) and I have been monitoring what I eat. It's just my partner and I and he works crazy and changing hours (shift work). I seem to find my rhythm when he is at work, but on his days off, we travel and do things together and I lose steam and just can't get motivated. And of course, because he is home and I love to cook, I cook for us. So what ends up happening is that I lose a couple of pounds, maybe over 10 days or so, and then I put some of it back on (on his days off). I would just love to find a way to regulate my schedule enough to get into a habit of doing what I need to do. Any suggestions? Shift work is a diet-killer...thanks!

That is tough because I have seen research that shows changing your work and sleep habits will in fact make you gain weight. I don't know maybe one thing you could do is make changes incrementally. If you're out somewhere eating, maybe dial it back 10% here, 20% there. Eventually, it adds up and you might get into a habit.
