All of my best intentions...

I had really planned to start 2014 off with a new outlook and healthier lifestyle. So far, though, it seems like I have stalled and sputtered and haven't managed to get anywhere. I lost a few pounds. Gained a few pounds. Then lost a couple again. I am no further ahead than when the year started!

Maybe winter isn't the best possible time to begin anything new. It's the end of a cycle, but spring, now that's a beginning! I can feel spring starting to stir a little in my mind and it could be that this is the more proper time to begin fresh.

I am kind of doing that now but I am pretty sure what I have gained is muscle. I feel heavier but not fatter, the clothes are not tight in any areas and I just feel more together I guess. I think part of it might be that you have some winter blue's going on.

Winter can be so difficult for dieting. Hopefully come springtime the weather will be nicer for exercising. Plus nicer weather can be much more motivating

I think from now on I will not make any New Year's resolutions and instead I will have a new tradition of making mine on the first day of spring.

Way to go, avidian! Leaner and stronger is what I am striving for!

Thanks, Bevzii. Yes, the nicer weather is much more motivating. I can't wait.

Since the new year I've found it very hard even my motivation for exercise took a dive. I've somewhat undone some of my toning and last week had gained half a stone. Really pushed my mind and body yesterday and today after seeing some quote that said along lines of working out and diet is hard ... Being over weight is hard ... Which would you pick! < something like that, I should have copied it!

We can do it!!!!

We are nearing the end of 2014’s first quarter. How are your goals? For me, I have kept them at bay because of some minor cravings. However, I am always ready to get back on track. I have realized that it is harder to start again than just continue, even with very minimal improvements.

The reality is that when you try to combine lots of 'hard' things, the chances of success drop of pretty rapidly. Sometimes (most times) taking smaller bites works a lot better.

Now, I am a personal trainer, I know that exercise is a good thing, getting stronger etc, will pay some good dividends later in life as well as in the present

BUT

You do not need to exercise for consistent fat loss. If you find exercise hard to stick with, just walk a few times a week, but really work on the eating. As you see positive results from this, the desire to move more will probably increase.

Something as simple as eating a non carb breakfast, eggs, salad, fish etc, can be a really good step towards weight loss. You are full for a long time, probably skip the morning snacks, and look forward to lunch.

Something as simple as that small change can get the motivational juices flowing and give you something to build on

Good luck

Wow, I so understand the struggles! Where I live is dark and grey this time of year and it seems to be doing nothing for my motivation. I go up and down a couple of pounds, but can't seem to stay down (or lose for that matter). The sun finally came out a bit last week and now I feel my motivation increasing. I'm trying to take advantage of the weather to get in a routine at least! Does anyone have any motivational tips for when you just can't seem to get going?

I guess my point is that we all see January 1st as a magical starting point and I am going to alter that point in my own life to make my resolutions and new starts coincide with spring, which to me, is a perfect time for new beginnings.
