Do Sugar Alcohols Help or Hurt?

I've read conflicting views on this subject. Some diet experts say eating foods that contain sugar alcohols is just as bad as eating sugar, since the alcohols have the same effect on the body. Other diet experts don't believe this is a problem.

I figure if a high protein bar with sugar alcohol can help me stick to my low carb plan, why not include it?

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I do believe that any kind of sugar is not good. but of course if you deadly need to eat something very sweet you should not avoid for example this high protein bar. the main thing is to keep limits.
