Trick-or-Treat - Yes No, discuss!

Do you let your children go trick or treating? If so what age are they, what age did they first go trick-or treating and are there any rules?

If no why not?

If no kids or they are not old enough yet, will you let them?

Mine went but only with an adult, never unsupervised. I'd be far too worried for that. Then I always checked the treats and dished them out a few at a time. I might seem a mean mum but at least they've never had any fillings!

Yes I do, with me or with D1 now who is sensible and nearly 17. only in our street though and we've been here 8 years so neighbours are great at taking part and one even asked the other day if she was ok to get more sweets in next week! So sweet.

Saw the above and really liked it showing the roots - from our aspect rather than American viewpoint.

My LO is three and my dh has been nagging for years to take her trick or treating! I've finally given in, but I think she's too young really. We will give it a go though and see what she thinks of it. I'm sure she'll like the sweets!

I was meant to follow with my situation... I'm sure I did but if so I typed it up and didn't post

My 2 are 6 and 7, they really want to go, not alone of course.

I'm just so torn although I went when I was younger what age from I can't remember.

My friend has a Halloween event over in Chester where we used to live which looks great but I'm not sure if that would be spoiling it for them as they know they knock doors ... there is one in the day for the little little ones and mine would go to the evening ...

Up where the girls go to school apparently a lot take part and put decs outside or in the window to welcome trick or treaters so maybe I should teach the girls to only look for these in the doors/windows.

So what about the flip side opening the doors ... I love it until you see grown boys/girls knocking your door, the little ones yes but not much effort high school kids really peeves me off and you just don't want to be bothered dealing with the 'no'.

I don't have children, but if I did I wouldn't like the idea of them knocking on doors and expecting strangers to give them sweets!

It's difficult ... we will be doing something just not 100% sure yet what. We have been told of 2 areas local where it's mean to be fun and welcoming. We will see ...

I don't have kids, but the kids on our street have been trick or treating since they were around 4-ish I think? All the parents are with them, and there are quite a few so it's fun for them.

I have no issue with kids going trick or treating, but I don't like opening the door for them... I know it sounds completely miserable, and I don't know why I don't like opening the door!! I was never a huge fan of going myself when I was a kid, so I think it stemmed from that.

And I agree with you Wobbles, they should only go for houses that have something in the window or in the front garden that indicates they'd be willing to open their door

I don't like it at Christmas either when they all start carolling... but that's mostly because they're teenagers that just want the cash!!
