new to town!

Hello,
I just signed up, really I've been trying a lot of new things lately to gain back confidence in myself and my body( at this point they are two separate things).

As I'm sure with most of you, it's a long long road with ups and downs. For me, I worry I've screwed up my body so much that it won't work properly anymore at all. For years I didn't eat enough and exercised too much, was too thin, then after trying to eat normally I returned to average, which isn't bad, but I then tried to restrict again though I was barely eating (I know, bad) I didn't lose any weight, I'm sure my body was panicked, I had completely lost track of what my body looks like and how it works. For years I exercised on an elliptical machine 40min per day with no results, though I was eating very little.

And now I'm back to normal eating, hoping my metabolism is back to standard, and have started different kinds of exercising, including kick boxing, but feel so fearful that my body will, as it has in the past, do nothing, not get stronger, not drop weight, nothing.

What does it mean? Does anyone else feel this way? I don't have a problem committing to a workout routine, I just feel I am always the exception to the rule and will never be a success story. And yeh, I know, maybe that mental piece is in the way, as well as negative thoughts about my body, because I'm not overweight, I'm 5'8, haven't weighed myself in ages but am a size 8 jeans, I don't look terrible, but I still feel like I want to be leaner and stronger.

Just looking for some guidance. I learned in kickboxing class squats, burpees, lunges, a bunch of different exercises for different areas of my body and when I'm not in class I am doing a combination of those (takes about 40 min), in reps, 5 days a week, three days of the week I do it twice a day.

I don't eat terribly either, trying to keep the meal plan up lest my body goes in starvation mode, but what else can I do? Does this sound like it will work?

I suggest you to read the post and you may get inspired from this to loose the weight.

If you would like some honest support and advice I think you've come to the right place. Have you considered that you don't really have anything to loose. You've been really honest about old food habits, and I think we don't always seen ourselves in the right light, "i'm too thin, I'm too fat" I think it could be quite liberating for you to share what your current weight and height is. It's daunting but somehow to a bunch of strangers it just seems a bit easier. I think it would be worth considering.

Looks lie good high intensity workouts/exercise you do there! You mention you do classes ... do you have any weights to your exercise routine?

Handful of things:
  1. You have mentioned being at a size 8 jeans, you don't want to lose any more weight surely?
  2. With that type of training you aren't looking to lose weight you are looking at body fat - The 2 are totally different things.
  3. Stronger - do you test yourself. How many squats in 1 minute. Time a workout come back and do the same workout in a month. Is your endurance changing?
  4. Stronger again - You need FUEL... food. When I don't fuel right I can go from doing a workout in 2 minutes to 4 minutes. Same with weights if I'm not fueling I can squats 50kg but when fueled 70kg in reps.
To see results you need to eat - I under ate at one point and my coach told me to trust them. I did, I was having steak for breakfast and they were right. I couldn't believe the results I got physically (and looking leaner) from eating MORE!

do you know how many calories roughly you are consuming per day. Can you give examples of the last couple of days what you have eaten?
