Newbie Alert!

Hi all, I'm a Newbie to slimming world! However easy is it to use all your syns in a day?! I've gone over my original 'target' today already (not a good start, I know!) I was just wondering whether anyone had any good (and yummy) 'free' snacks and what sorts of drinks you guys have? I limited myself to one coffee today and have stuck to water. But I can't go on! I'm gasping for something thirst quenching! P.S I'm on the EE plan

Hello and welcome!

It terms of drinks; all diet fizzy drinks are free. I find Coke Zero and Pepsi max tastes just like the full fat stuff. Also, if I feel I've had too many fizzy drinks (they don't half bloat you out!), I have juice - like Robinson's blackcurrant - the stuff you mix with water. All sugar free ones are free.
If you want something hot - fruity teas are brilliant. All herbal teas are free. I like the strawberry and raspberry one and peppermint ones.

In terms of snacks; I must admit this one has me a bit stuck. I enjoyed the deviled chicken drumsticks from the SW book they are free (http://group.slimmingworld.com/recip...rumsticks.aspx)
or the sticky chicken one are 2 syns (http://group.slimmingworld.com/recip...y-chicken.aspx) and the bakewell bites are amazing if you want something sweet 2 syns each - they went down so well at work when we have a fuddle (I wanted to join in, but I don't think I even got one!) (http://group.slimmingworld.com/recip...ell-bites.aspx)
I also like to have fat free cottage cheese and carrot sticks in - that's free and I have just made the hummus which is lush, that's free!
How about Laughing Cow Cheese Triangles - you can have 5 as your healthy extra?

Just a few ideas.

Thank you for getting back to me
I read in the slimming world magazine earlier that you were allowed Pepsi max so I have just indulged! Was so refreshing!
So relieved that I'm not limited to just water!

Which slimming world book do you use if you dont mind me asking?
The snacks sound scrummy!
I love cheese triangles! This is where I get confused! Healthy extras! Do you know much about them? I'm confused as to whether I should be listing milk and other dairy as syns or healthy extras? :S

Ok, so, your healthy extra - this is the most confusing part of SW. I get mixed up on which is b and a... so I'll wing the names.
Healthy A: You can have certain amounts of milk (exact amount is in the book) - to be used on cereal or in tea or just to drink. If you don't use milk, you can have cheese instead. I have changed to black coffee so I can have the cheese. They told me you can't mix and match with milk and cheese, it's one or the other.
Healthy B: This is you bread or cereal, full lists in book. Some cereal bars are counted in this too - really helpful if you want something sweet - 2x Light Alpen bars as your healthy B.
SW recommend you make sure you have your Healthy Extras everyday - they don't count as syns. It just makes sure you getting enough calcium and fiber. So it is important you factor them in.

For example if you have your milk allowance in your tea, but still want some cheese, you can, but you'll have to syn the cheese (or syn whichever is the lowest syn - hee)

I am not sure that makes it easier to understand. I just make sure I pick one healthy b and one a everyday! Usually cheese and aplen bars

Oh my gosh! That's such a difficult decision! I absolutely love cheese, but also love my morning coffee too! Black coffee it is I think :P
Thank you so much for clarifying, that makes much more sense! it's nice to have some support from fellow slimmers!

Just realised I haven't used my allowance from both for today! Oopsy.

Thank you again!

Hi AmieRose,

Welcome to Social Slimmers

Berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, etc.) make a good healthy snack.
Rice cakes and cottage cheese ... I assume these are free!
Muller light
... I have a couple of healthy snack ideas but for the SW they would be syned,

The bigegst problem with coffee is the sugar you have with it. I use half spoon in a black coffee now but try swapping out extra milk with coconut milk ... one you would have to check if syn'ed though sorry (the coconut milk). When I did SW and had cows milk in cofffee (I refused to give up my coffee lol) I didn't syn my milk in coffee the end if I'm honest, I had 2-3 mugs a day.

Water will really help... thirst is often mistaken for hunger too! Recently I have enjoyed a glass of water with a squeeze of a fresh lime in it, really refreshing. All fizzy drink makes me bloaty.

x

Hello and thank you
Oh I know I love my coffee but it just isn't the same without sugar! I've been good today and had some water and a Pepsi max as I was so dry!
I'll have a look at some coconut milk when I go shopping. It's great to hear other people's ideas and tips, especially being a newbie.
Oh I don't mind rice cakes or berries either so they will make a tasty snack.
Thank you

I didn't stop my sugar ... well I did but not for long I did however swap 1 sugar for 1 sweetener. How many tsp do you have? The half spoon sugar is good, I use that now!

Almond butter on those rice cakes is a good one, it's good fats but probably syned stupid on SW lol x
