Calling All Sugar Addicts!

Hi guys -- fellow sugar addict here. I was wondering what you guys have done to help overcome the sugar addiction(s) you have. For me, it's cake-y/doughy sweets that call out late at night. I've already rid the house of that type of stuff but now, how do I deal with the craving?

I have a muller yoghurt and add a fun size pack (or equivalent amount) of cadburys buttons ... also sugar free jelly goes well with the vanilla muller and buttons

Options hot chocolate sachets are good too

Mini treatsize cadburys buttons is 75 calories - 4 syns
Vanilla Mullerlight is 91 calories or free on SW
1/4 made up sugar free jelly is 8 calories - that will either be free or half a syn on SW I believe!
Options sachets are around the 40 calories mark depending which one so around 2 syns on SW

I still crave certain things but it doesn't seem to torture me as much any more as time goes on and when it's special occasions I just don't think about it!

I've tried to cut back sugar by using other types of sweeteners. Artificial sweeteners give me headaches, and Stevia upsets my stomach, so finding a decent substitute has been hard. The only two that I tolerate are honey and agave. Doesn't taste quite the same, but they're sweet enough to fool my tastebuds.

Also, agave syrup is amazing on pancakes. I wish I'd discovered it sooner!

I stopped buying less junk food and more fruits. I swear one week I walked into the local store and came out with nothing but fruits and veggies. I have been shopping at the same place for almost ten years and they know me by name there, everyone was shocked too!

Sounds like you've made a good start. I've substituted my sweet cravings for yogurt, caramel rice cakes and saltine crackers. The sweet urge hits me around 9:00 or 10:00 every night. If any of you figure out how to overcome this, please let me know.

I've transitioned mainly to dark chocolate. It is fairly healthy and tastes good enough. I'll also eat honey, agave and some licorice. Do you eat natural sugars from fruits? Those help out too.

I've swapped sugar for sweetener in my hot drinks but not much of a sweet person May have to start a 'Calling all stodgy food addicts!' post. I love breads and pasta etc, anything high in carbs

Mitch, I know what you mean -- I love the carbs, too! As for the sugar, though, I don't drink sugary drinks like sweet tea, sugared lemonade, sodas, or even coffee, so I don't really have an issue there. It's mostly with craving cake, brownies, cookies, honey buns, oatmeal creme pies, etc. I don't buy those foods or keep them in the house anymore, but all the same, cravings still strike (almost every night after dinner) and it's really hard to overcome them. I've tried eating fruit instead but since the texture isn't the same, it's not satisfying even though it is still sweet.

How about black decaf coffee? That is the best way to consume coffee in my opinion. It's more expensive than regular or lite coffee though. I crave brownies all the time. I'm trying to replace brownies with dove dark chocolate but it's just not the same.
