Unsure of whether to add cardio

Hi all

I started my weight loss program 2 and a half weeks ago, ive lost 6lbs, but i know that is mostly water weight

Im on 1800 calories, all clean food (nuts, seeds, oats, lean meat and tonnes of low carb veg)- the calculators say thats a 700 calorie deficit

I currently do weights, but ive been thinking of introducing cardio as a weight to increase my calorie deficit without dropping my food

Do you think that is a good idea or do you think it would result in too much of a deficit?

Thanks

Nice drop

Strength and conditioning is a good combination. Definitely add cardio!

Cardio is a great exercise - I definitely find it both very fun and invigorating. Be that as it may, I don't think that you should increase your deficit further. A healthy deficit is 250-500 cals, so you're already over that threshold.

If you're still feeling energetic and aren't feeling any dominant cravings then I can't see why it's a problem in this instance.

Increasing your deficit further will, however, result in your body going into starvation mode, which slows down the metabolism and prepares the body to eat in abundance. Here's where the cravings will kick in and inevitably kick in, and you'll likely end up giving into these and binging. I'm not knocking your willpower or determination, this is just science.

I'd say defintely add cardio as it's great for heart health and conditioning, however don't increase your deficit any further, which will mean you having to eat more in order to create that 700 calorie deficit. This way you'll be making up for the extra calories burned.

Sounds like you're doing a fine job, by the way. Hope my words help - message me if you need anything else.

Even if you added cardio and somehow made up for it by eating more, and retained the same deficit, you'd still have all the awesome hormonal benefits of the exercise.

Also, well done on a great start!
