What do you want?

After losing over 8 stone many people have been asking me to start my own diet club.

I would love to do this and have plans to do it in small groups of only 6-10 per group.

I want to include a cookery demo together with weigh in (and measure in and "before" pic when first joining). I will also give hints and tips on things I have learned along the way.

My ethos for it is cooking for weight loss, health and also your pocket. In other words learning how to cook the best, tastiest, healthiest and most economical food.

I have a place to do the club and also a separate room to do weigh in so no-one else hears/sees.

I would REALLY appreciate your feedback on what your ideas of the perfect weight loss club would be like. xxx

Just had my first club meeting and it went really well.

Did the weigh in in private (separate room), also took measurements and "before" pics.

Then a cookery session and tasting. It was all very relaxed and good fun and everyone enjoyed it.

Would still love if anyone has any input into what they would ideally want in a club.

This sounds great Daisy
Glad your first one went so well!

I think the cooking demonstration is a fantastic idea! I think a lot of people get put off when it comes to cooking because they think it'll be difficult or whatever, but if you are showing them how simple it can be, people are more likely to get stuck in at home
Also the measurements are a great idea. Especially for those weeks when the scales haven't been friendly, but if they can see those measurements reducing too, that's even better

Hi Daisy

I am so glad to hear it's gone so well. I haven't been to a group meeting personally so I am not perhaps the best to say what I would want to see. I think all your ideas at the moment sound perfect, I think it's great you are spending time on recipes and cooking. I really do think it helps so much when you can eat lovely home made food as you lose weight.

Sorry I haven't any ideas to contribute but I do wish you every success

Thanks Sarah. I love food and I love cooking and I always knew what to eat and what not to eat but I still got to be nearly 17 stone (massive for anyone but particularly massive if you are only 5' 1"!). I just needed the discipline of being weighed by strangers every week. I never used sw recipes coz I am a purist and prefer the authentic recipes. I stuck to these.

I only actually started this because ppl had said to me to please do it because they knew I could cook and then were impressed with my losing over 8 stone and still eating properly.

The demo is great fun ... I just prep and cook in front of them while they watch and can look over the printed recipe I have given them, and then they get to taste.

I am very into doing things as inexpensively as possible too and showing people how to cook great healthy and slim friendly food on a budget challenges me. I love a challenge :-)

Thanks for responding Marie. The fact you haven't been to a meeting is fine with me ... you can say what you would WISH for in a perfect meeting.

I just want to show people how easy, quick and inexpensive it is to eat properly (and enjoy it) and maybe lose weight or maintain too. x

One thing I don't like about our group is the public weight loss discussion while we all sit round in a circle - you know ..... 'Jenny 2lb this week - 12lbs in total Well Done!' 'Ann 4lb this week - total 1stone 1lb - Well Done' 'Mary, gained half a pound - what do you think went wrong?'
I find this boring and time consuming and I'm much rather have a demo or even a talk about the different brands of yogurt and fomage frais. Its a big class of over 50 people (and very successful too) who are just sitting around and applauding and it takes ages.
I really really like the sound of cook lessons, but won't you run out of ideas?
