I wish I could grow my own food

When I was growing up my dad had the best garden with the largest tomatoes I have ever seen. His cucumbers were so sweet they almost tasted like watermelon.

I'm sick of paying the enormous prices at the grocery store for produce that has been trucked in from who knows where and there is no telling what kind of chemicals have been sprayed on them.

Local, homegrown food is the healthiest as far as dieting goes.

We have a garden every summer with tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, green beans and salads. There is nothing as wonderful as picking your own vegetables and eating them fresh off the vine.

I'm starting to get the need to get things planted again! We grew loads last year and it was lovely, but once the summer had gone, for some reason we didn't grow winter foods!

I tried last year ... Failed between myself and the cat helping lol! Would love to try again but as we're trying to move it'll have to be another year!

Yeah, the last time I went to the grocery store and bought their tomatoes, I had to look down to see what I was eating. It definitely didn't taste like a tomato! Tasted like practically nothing. A mushy red nothing.

I did a herb garden last year in a big wooden sandpit which had been left by the previous house owners, also grew a little lettuce. Now I am spurred on by them not dying under my clumsy care, I have bought some big troughs and am growing courgettes (so expensive here), carrots, leeks, spring onions. Amazed myself - not a very garden type person hehe.

Lettuces are fab to grow and so easy! I'm going to give bell peppers another go this year cos they're so pricey!

Peppers are a great idea - I also wondered about growing chillies as we get through so many in a week

Right? It is so frustrating to have to spend high prices on produce and have it taste like nothing. I would love to be able to grow my own, but we are in a condo and that can't happen. I am seriously thinking about trying my hand at a small patio garden...

I hate how expensive fruit and veg is, and a lot of the time it's had so much crap sprayed on it that it tastes of nothing and is just mush.
I've considered growing my own before but I think the dog would eat it!
