Substitutes for salt

I've tried various kinds of salt substitutes, but none of them taste right. Herbs can only stretch so far, and lemon gets kind of boring after a while. Anyone have any tips?

I know salt is bad for water retention but as long as you drink lots of is a little salt bad for weight loss?
