Healthy Pasta Meals?

I'm in the mood for pasta but I know most pasta dishes are loaded with calories. How can I make a hearty pasta dish that's still healthy?

You can do healthy tomato based pasta dishes. I usually use, an onion dry fried (using water to stop it catching, a couple of garlic cloves, add in a tin of chopped tomatoes, tbsp tomato puree, some basil, and black pepper, I let it cook for about 10 mins. I often then blitz it with a hand blender and pop it in a jar so I have some to hand. I think it lasts about a week in the fridge - but I don't think ours has ever lasted that long usually gets eaten

I add sliced chillis for a spicy sauce, or meditteranean vegetables I have roasted in the oven for a more filling sauce. Some lean ham cut into pieces is nice too. I still also make bolognese as it is ok on SW.

I agree with Marie--making the sauce from scratch is key. Low sodium and no red meat is a must in my household, so I double the veggies. Squash, eggplant, and carrots do very well. Fresh basil and parsley can give a wonderful boost of flavor. And if you want to sub out the noodles completely, you can always go with spaghetti squash.

That sounds great, and I don't think I've ever had dry fried onion. It sounds pretty good though! Definitely gonna look into that one.

Since starting my diet we've been using wholewheat pasta. I don't know if it has any additional health benefits but I find it more filling.

I quite like making a bolognese pasta bake. Similar to spaghetti bolognese but you put half the sauce at the bottom of an oven proof dish, layer with some cooked pasta twists and then top with the other half of the bolognese. Sprinkle with a bit of grated low fat cheese and stick in the oven for about 20 minutes on 180C

I find it more filling than regular spaghetti bolognese, and only 2.5 syns on slimming world

Thanks for the advice. I think a homemade, tomato-based sauce would be much better than a white, Alfredo-type sauce. I think I will also switch to the whole wheat or whole grain pastas, too. Aren't they higher in fiber?
