Tofu

I've had it when other people make it and it's pretty good but whenever I make it, it is bland and kind of mushy. Should I use the soft kind, firm, or extra firm? I've bought the firm and extra firm kinds thinking it would be better but it just doesn't get much flavor. Do you use tofu or bean curd in your stews or stir fry? Does it pick up the flavors?

Have you tried marinating it? Whenever I use tofu for stirfries, I marinate it for an hour or two beforehand. Helps to lock in the flavor. I usually saute it with seasoning veggies, too. I like mine slightly crispy on the outside.
