Having a hard time losing weight

I have been eating 1200 calories a day, walking five times a week for an hour at a time and I haven't been losing any pounds or inches. What am I doing wrong? Should I decrease my calorie intake more? I only need to lose 15 more pounds to reach my goal.

One thing to try is maybe upping your calories slightly to say 1500 for about 3-5 days see if you start sweating more when you exercise and your weight loss resumes. If it turns out to be the case you are not eating enough for your bodies needs and it has slowed your metabolism to prevent damage. Maybe add a protein bar or something after your walks. Sometimes is not about the calories but the foods that make them up.
The other option is to artificially increase your metabolism through sports supplements like fat burners or factor in natural metabolism boosters like green tea and caffine into your diet. I would not recommend this as the system exists to protect you but it will bulldoze through your plateau. When i used to do weights we used this thing called an eca stack until people started getting ill. Anyway good luck with your weight loss.

Sounds like you need a few more calories to get going again. I love a good bar after I am on the bike for a while. There is a little spot where I can grab some shade before I take the biggest hill in our neighborhood (I live far above it) so the bar gives me a little more get up and go to make the trip up the hill. I am only pedaling up it at about 3-5MPH but without the bar there is no way I would make it, the grade on the darn hill is insane.

I would add some more calories. I found that upping my calories gave the weight loss a kick start after it had stalled with too few calories

You are not the only one who learned the hard way. I guess somehow early on we are programmed to think that the only way we can drop weight is to eat less. We still need a good chunk of calories and if you drop the calories too low, too quick you are going to hit that stump in the road. It is just a matter of time.

Just goes to show that what we think is the right thing to do isn't always the right thing. I'd gotten stuck, too. What a simple fix! I should have realized my metabolism had slowed back down.

I would add weight lifting into your routine. I was watching an online broadcast by an endocrinologist last night and he was talking about how, when you only do cardio, a lot of the weight you lose is water and muscle. When you lift weights though, your body burns through it's sugar and fat stores in order to build muscle. Then, the additional muscle mass increases your resting metabolic rate. Win/win.

I agree with weight lifting being really good. It's such a good calorie burner too!

I think the same way but listening to someone else say it makes me realise a few things.

Do exercise to keep healthy, not to slim down. Use diet to slim.
1200 cals is pretty low, check that it's not too low for you and your body isn't fighting off being starved.
You talk about 15lbs but maybe just aim for this next 1lb when it happens. 1lb is a LOT. Pick up a 1lb of sugar or salt, it's heavy so it's not trivial to lose 1lb fat.

I use myfitnesspal to do a food diary, maybe give it a go if you don't already use it.

Be patient, it'll happen.
